Corporate Periphery Times
Volume III - Issue 01 (Stardate 216.2)

Welcome Readers! The GTT is a fascinating place to work and has a lot of interesting stories to tell. It has always seemed a shame that few outside GTT HQ get to know about them and this magazine is meant to correct that situation. Our intent is to create greater understanding about the GTT and its position as the premier Imperial chartered megacorporation. We will tell those stories accurately and factually, as far as security permits, and we hope that you enjoy them all. And now on with the news. $$

CPT: Plus Ca Change!

The printing presses at the CPT offices have been quiet for some time since our beloved editor and publisher, Mary Stryker, stepped down from the helm. With the resignation of her husband, James and marriage of her son, her editorial work at GTT HQ has come into conflict with her other duties.

Mary's drive and determination have been instrumental in making her Times what it is today. While her presence will be sorely missed, business continues as usual and a new Editor-in-chief will be announced shortly.

Boltzmann: Flagritz Flop

Not a delicious new cocktail dreamed up by bored boffins at GTT Towers, but yet another attempted invasion from the self proclaimed slavers and haters of humanity in these Peripheries.

Undaunted by earlier disastrous 'maneuvers' within systems defended by the GTT, Lewis and St. Dismas, FLZ high command dispatched another invasion flotilla to the recently discovered and largely inconspicuous system of Boltzmann.

Alert Empire commanders observed numerous FLZ and FRE flagged freighters and troop ships land to unload an army upon the planet of Thourne (124).
Quote:

FLZ SHIP LIGHT FREIGHTER V135-02 (53418) - {12-35} - {50 Light Hulls}
Light Freighter Class Freighter {No Armour}
FRE SHIP LIGHT LINER V142-03 (82720) - {13-35} - {50 Light Hulls}
Light Liner Class Troop Transport {No Armour}

An immediate response from IMP and GTT forces was dispatched in an effort to render assistance to disrupt and counter the potential attack from the despicably sneaky FLZ.

This quick reaction ensured the destruction of ten FLZ troop ships at Beta 10 and one other at Beta 5.
An additional two FLZ Gunships were destroyed at Delta 11.

Pop, Pop, Pop - Is That Parts Of A Flagritz Fleet Arriving?

Later reports detailed that a FLZ cruiser was also captured by intrepid GTT marines assaulting from boarding ship. The FLZ JVE1 Astral Spirit (65169) fell quickly to a superior force of marines and warbots.....rust buckets these FLZ ships they may be, but should provide at least half a dozen patches having finally made port for decommissioning.

Undoubtedly, quick and decisive action from Empire commanders prevented FLZ GROUND PARTY SONS OF SILITH SCOR-01 (86448) - {13-35} - 8 kMus from achieving a mass capable of causing any damage.

What of the GP?
In the event it is apparent the Flagritz abandoned the ground party to its inevitable doom, to be destroyed from orbit by the protecting IMP platform.

Steward, bring me that cocktail! $$

Alpha Centauri: To Dim A Sun

“Launch Primary to GTT Atlas. We are clear, thanks for the lift. Now you had better clear the area before we tumble this baby off into the sun.”

Scientists had calculated the precise amount of zionite required to fix the broken jump link and open the Alpha Centauri system to shipping again. With a push of a button, events are set in motion and only time would tell if their calculations were correct.

The bomb sails down into the fiery abyss and is soon lost to sensors. Nothing happens.

Nothing continues to happen for a long time. Then there is a small prominence formed. The magnetic field associated with it intensifies and forms a huge loop which then breaks creating a flare. The sensors indicate a drop of 0.001% in overall luminosity but the flare increases in size and energy, sweeping outwards.
The team stare in horror as the energy surges through space covering everything in its path including this platform. The coronal ejection is approximately the mass of a small moon and expanding out across the system.

The screens light up - emergency, then the mass hits...

Alpha Centauri Star Reacts To Being Shot At

“Starbase New Earth! Starbase New Earth! GTT platform Launch Primary is hit with major damage to all systems. Sensors are down and we cannot track the shock wave, switching over to secondary scout ships”

“Kriegseeker scout to Starbase New Earth. A Coronal Ejection is enroute to Atlantis. The star has erupted and a massive discharge is spreading out and will strike Atlantis. We are unable to bring our ISR engines online fast enough. Impact in 3, 2, 1 . . . . <static>………………..”

“Atlantis Defender I, taking over from Launch Primary. Begin tracking the coronal mass ejection headed toward Atlantis, all tracking stations and all ships in system will coordinate data with this platform, per order of GTT Captain Quinlan.”

“Captain Quinlan to Starbase New Earth. The mass is dissipating but will sweep out across all orbital quadrants.

While clumping as it dissipates New Earth will not be spared. The mass, has a surface profile more than 430 times the cross-sectional area of the world and a mass comparable to a typical planet (though negligible in comparison to the star's mass).
While the magnetosphere of the world will protect it from being blitzed by the highly ionising radiation it will create a magnetic storm the likes of which has never been seen before on this world (and hopefully never will again).
There is a worry for positions in orbit of this world as the magnetosphere may actually enhance damage to orbiting positions (wave bye-bye to the many civilian satellites at the very least).”

Captain Quinlan sounds the alarm, warning the Atlantis colonists they have 3 days to prepare for the shock wave.

While the coronal mass heading out from the star is dissipating the highly charged gas is a threat to this world, not so much to the civilians themselves but rather to the infrastructure. Thankfully there is no risk of an atmospheric burn-out however the intense radiation storm will induce currents in the many metallic objects that have not been hardened. Unshielded power cables, transducer terminals, vehicles and even common appliances are in extreme danger. There is a secondary risk that burnouts will initiate fires.
The population are warned to turn off electrical appliances and keep away from them else risk electrocution.
Without the warning the effect could have proved devastating to the population as it is it will hopefully prove more of an expensive disruption to trade with the possible loss of some infrastructure and minor loss of life.

While loss of civilian life was relatively minor and generally caused by secondary effects such as fires and inability of health services to reach cases in time due to downed systems, damage to infrastructure itself has been more severe. Entire pylons and power cables have been reduced to molten slag while substations have been severely damaged. Power stations
are out of commission except for the hardened ones (fission generators).
Comsats are destroyed forcing communications to use ground based optics where they exist (expensive compared to a few comsats).

The actual damage is reflected in some of the recent infrastructure upgrades downgrading and a base audit will follow to identify the shortfalls in each case.
On the plus side the economy is gearing towards the anticipated arrival of a lot of off-world goodies and this previously closed market with arguably the second most developed infrastructure in the known Peripheries will be open to the masses (well a select few at least). Though the civilian population will no longer be paying quite so over the odds based on the requirement for any arriving cargo ship to remain in this system after
making its deliveries.

Emir Ike Krieger, CEO of the GTT promises to personally arrive on the scene and oversee restoration of the colony to pre shockwave levels. After several months, all of the damage is repaired and the influx of trade goods and exportation of years of stockpiled trade goods has made this a very profitable venture for the GTT as well as linking a large population of citizens back into the Caliphate family. $$

Ed's Note: Alpha Centauri was a Galactic Crest Securities stronghold for several years from which they tampered with the star's ISR field to effectively cut themselves off from the neighbouring Inner Empire Systems. Why they did so and what the GTT's involvement was is a story for another time.

Mayday! Mayday! CEO in Distress!

“Mayday! Mayday! CEO in Distress. SOS. SOS. Can anyone hear me?”

The CEO of the GTT was nearly killed when his ship jumped out of the Alpha Centauri system after a successful mission to restore the colony world to pre shock wave levels. As the Yolanda emerged from hyperspace 'ISR Instability' caused 149 (152) damage. Damage Report: 1 AI Navigator mkIV (918)
2 Heavy Hull mkIIs (81) Warning - Insufficient crew factors. All actions take 182% tus.
The HAL 9000 AI was killed, multiple hull fractures were noted and the flight officer began sending out a distress call on all channels.

Multiple stations responded to the distress call, and all heard the new pilot answer the comms. “This is the CEO, you will NOT teleport me off this ship, I am at the helm and will crash land at the nearest outpost and you can send someone to pick me up!” The CEO spent time overseeing operations at a small deep space outpost, until a passing Super Clipper docked and collected him to continue his journey.

Operational unit include the <**censored**>, the <**censored**>, the <**censored**> squadrons and the units of the elite <**censored**>. Recon missions has located many outpost of the DEN in the system and strikes have been completed on outposts located on <**censored**>, <**censored**>, <**censored**>, and <**censored**>. It is believe most of these outposts are mining operation of minimal size or even just placekeepers with no operational value. However outposts of 54 kMus and 15 kMus are believed to have been reduced to rubble.

Hercules Labours II

Hercules, a Mega gigant-class support ship, has been plying the space lanes for over a year now for the corporation. Displacing over 275,000mu when fully laden this has been since its creation the largest ship ever in the GTT fleet.

user image
Ship Docking At GTT Hercules

After its shakedown cruise and the relocation of Shrike Force I to the orbit of Thorax, this ship has been single-handedly moving platforms and sometimes entire fleets around the empire. Built using organic technology its low maintenance requirements mean it remains highly productive despite its size and manages with visiting dry-dock just twice a year.

It was recently seen travelling, empty, into the Inner Empire.

Holey Conda-miniums!

Employees have reported sightings of Conda Rats on the GTT Islands (tm) for the first time earlier this month near executive apartments. Small holes were found in structural modules and some minor damage done to imported trees.
These cuddly exports are not considered dangerous and are often kept as pets but have never before been seen on the artificial islands.

Company scientists were unable to confirm or deny if this was some sort of experiment in pest control but said they are not to be disturbed if found nesting.

A recent announcement and an increase in activity in the Capellan system have been noted at the CPT offices. This has been followed by the deactivation of a number of freighter transponder codes.

More info as it emerges. $$

Editorial: Oi, Enclave, No!
Words by Antt Tilton, GTT governor, and not necessarily the opinion of the whole CPT editorial team.

Let me be Frank for a moment. I've met a few good Naplians in my time and they have their place, but self-governing?
I'm not so sure I like their ideas.

user image
Naplian Enclave In Session

The recent rise of the so-called Naplian Enclave government has documented their inability to administer globally without either tanking the local economy or requiring a galactic government to subsidise them. Add to that the fact what commerce there is revolves around the consumption of increasingly large amounts of drugs and any idea of having a useful member planet goes up in smoke. I'd even suggest inciting their local Naplians to form their own Enclaves would be an effective way to cripple your enemy's bank balance.

No. The empire model is more effective, bringing the benefit of global government without descending into economic chaos.

You could install Naplian Clerks and Justices to run it as the ideas it brings are somewhat hard to grasp, without an imperial mind set, but the Naplian population are not known for their willingness to change. If they have not already experienced an Imperial government or even worse have managed to assemble an Enclave then it will need boots on the ground for any change to be effected.

Naplian Government Simply Not The Best

A much more effective way of governing would be to declare it an Imperial Territory.
Security, Prosperity and better living for all. $$

Sal Cobalt: Enterprising Corpsicle Driver

CPT reporters have been unable to confirm or deny rumors swirling around Capella that notorious sophont trafficker Sal Cobalt, last in the public eye when he was arrested for attempting to sell 73,000 Naplian orphans as prime Terran beefsteak, has been released into the custody of GTT operatives to work as a "consultant".

"Look, lady," said a Capellan constabulary officer who asked not to be identified, "Mr. Tilton pays for a lot of Christmas parties down at the precinct. If he wants one of our mooks to help him figure out how to pack more humans into a cryopod for "humane resettlement", what business is that of mine? More power to the guy, I say."

Single-occupancy Cryotubes Are So Last Year

Sources within the shipyard registry office do confirm that a number of badly-smudged and possibly forged registration papers in the name of one "S. Cobllet" HAVE recently been submitted, along with ship template orders specifying the installation of older, cheaper, and less reliable freeze-tubes in an antiquated group of starships originally designed for the transportation of pig offal to and from agricultural colony worlds.

CPT will continue to monitor this vital story until Mr. Tilton tells us not to. $$
