*** Message From The Editor ***

Kang once again thanks Ellerian of the DEN were details regarding the Solo conflict.

KANG!

*** Solo Conflict – Day 4 ***

The EMP Uber-GP has continued it’s battle to seize DEN Manticore today, making slow but steady inroads against the defenders despite heavy losses amongst the hordes of Naplian Mercenaries.

One DEN defender was reportedly able to kill 7 Naplians with a single shot, so densely packed are they.

Ground Battle for the Control of DEN Manticore (3637)

72998 Naplian Veteran Mercenaries - 34744 [291992] damage

Because really, what’s a few thousand dead Naplians to any of us?

Elsewhere IMP ground parties took more undefended outposts and other GPs became active and were instantly targeted by Dewiek orbital defences:

IMP ground assaulter 1 (41686) - Ground party
BLOWN UP!

Elsewhere around 1,000 ships of the Empires combined fleet moved to Deta 6 to try and catch the much smaller HEX/DEN contingent (around 400) but only caught a couple of outliers and a freighter:

HEX OMEGA WRAITH (2119) - Ship

BLOWN UP!
HEX OMEGA WRAITH (35988) - Ship

In Gamma 10

GTT Ranger Gothic (84378) - Ship
Minute Man Class Heavy Cruiser {Medium Ablative Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!

And in Delta 10 another platform and GTT ship was taken out

GTT Ranger Xray (94871) - Ship
Imp Pc Escort Class Heavy Cruiser {Light Ablative Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!
GTT Papa Delta (54517) - Platform
BLOWN UP!

And in other Delta quads CIA ships showed why they aren't any bloody use to anyone
at all when three Dewiek ships were hit for the following damages

DEN WP4 A 1 - Vehement Denial
Targeted by CIA Serpent 7 (70874) - 0 [606] Damage
Targeted by CIA Serpent 8 (2635) - 0 [707] Damage
Targeted by CIA Serpent 9 (15719) - 0 [1415] Damage
Targeted by CIA Serpent 10 (30460) - 0 [505] Damage
Targeted by CIA Serpent 6 (51575) - 0 [1417] Damage
DEN WP4 A 2 - Penetrating Brilliance
Targeted by CIA Serpent 1 (5623) - 0 [1820] Damage
Targeted by CIA Serpent 2 (5829) - 0 [1314] Damage
Targeted by CIA Serpent 5 (24831) - 0 [909] Damage
DEN WP4 A 1 - Congenial Strength
Targeted by CIA Serpent 4 (2857) - 0 [404] Damage
Targeted by CIA Serpent 3 (57942) - 0 [0] Damage

Analysts suggest these ships may have been intended to reinforce the attack
on Manticore considering their armament:

Incoming Fire from CIA Serpent 7 (70874)
----------------------------------------
Round 1: 15 Light Rail Gun mkIIs (APEX)
- 1 hit - 0 (33) [101] damage - 16%
Round 2: 15 Light Rail Gun mkIIs (APEX)
- 1 hit - 0 (33) [101] damage - 16%
Round 3: 15 Light Rail Gun mkIIs (APEX)
- 1 hit - 0 (22) [101] damage - 16%
Round 4: 15 Light Rail Gun mkIIs (APEX)
- 3 hits - 0 (101) [304] damage - 16%

Mmmm. Sweet sweet orbital bombardment. Kang enjoys that footage. Leave the CIA ships alone so they can engage in more orbital bombardments already!

*** Solo – Day 5 ***

As suspected, the Dewiek High Lord Folkvar arrived in Solo on the fifth day, and immediately jumped into the fray, stirring up several thousand non-combatant Dewiek to join him.

Regrettably for the puny Dewiek meatsacks, despite this reinforcement the EMP ground party continued to make steady headway, pushing forward through the blasted ruins of Manticore:

Ground Battle for the Control of DEN Manticore (3637)
-----------------------------------------------------
Round 1: Battle is 3:2 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 0.63% control [74.59%]
0.42% chance of losing control
Round 2: Battle is 11:7 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 2.76% control [71.84%]
0.58% chance of losing control
Round 3: Battle is 8:5 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 1.78% control [70.06%]
0.69% chance of losing control
Round 4: Battle is 5:3 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 2.27% control [67.79%]
0.86% chance of losing control

By the end of the day the Uber-GP had been reduced in numbers again, with many tens of thousands dead, but it still remains a very significant force of meatsacks:

Round 4: 5152 Aquaphid Soldiers - 2456 [20608] damage
13310 Aquaphid Startroopers - 3050 [26620] damage
144 Aquaphid Veteran Soldiers - 152 [1152] damage
456 Aquaphid Veteran Startroopers - 248 [1824] damage
1262 Assault Tanks - 5436 [50480] damage
398 Assault Tank mkIIs - 1767 [17910] damage
4608 Dewiek Marines - 1074 [9216] damage
10289 Dewiek Soldiers - 4908 [41156] damage
11059 Human Marines - 2558 [22118] damage
31258 Human Mercenaries - 7076 [62516] damage
49986 Human Soldiers - 23076 [199944] damage
74051 Human Startroopers - 17224 [148102] damage
156 Human Veteran Marines - 72 [624] damage
1749 Human Veteran Mercenaries - 852 [6996] damage
2276 Human Veteran Soldiers - 1952 [18208] damage
1618 Human Veteran Startroopers - 724 [6472] damage
9166 Kastorian Soldiers - 4412 [36664] damage
1385 Light Tanks - 2808 [27700] damage
584417 Naplian Mercenaries - 136754 [1168834] damage
1454 Naplian Startroopers - 356 [2908] damage
77035 Naplian Veteran Mercenaries - 35628 [308140] damage

Elsewhere in the system, the FLZ made a single kill:

GTT Ranger Vector (21238) - Ship
Imp Pc Escort Class Heavy Cruiser {Medium Ablative Armour}
Armour: 10.4
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!

And bombarded a Solo IMP outpost:

Attacking IMP Outpost BB-97 (8413) - 6660 [6660] Damage

The DEN had a few more Shipping victories

GTT Ranger Zeta (68836) - Ship
Minute Man Class Destroyer {Medium Ablative Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!
GTT Papa Stargate (53054) - Platform
BLOWN UP!
CAL Chesme of Capellan (10620) - Ship
Cannon Ball Class Explorer {Heavy Ablative Armour}

And some DEN warships decided to notice the CIAs pathetic blockers much to the blockers detriment:

CIA Serpent 7 (70874) - Ship
Monitor Class Gun Boat {Light Ablative Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!
CIA Serpent 8 (2635) - Ship

CIA Serpent 9 (15719) - Ship

CIA Serpent 10 (30460) - Ship

Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!
CIA Serpent 6 (51575) - Ship
Monitor Class Gun Boat {Light Ablative Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!

Better luck with orbital bombardment next time, puny CIA.

*** Folkvar Report ***

Special Action/DEN Manticore/Folkvar Arrives
As flames rise up on all sides of the starport, the ship seems to descend in total serenity seemingly immune to incoming fire.
The airlock cycles while the ship is still fifteen metres above the hardpan and Folkvar the legend himself leaps the final distance followed by his veteran bodyguard and from there march, casting aside would-be assailants as the close on C and C.
Apprised of the dire situation during descent he spares little time for those already prepared to die, instead addressing the many dewiek non-combat personnel. To these settlers and engineers he calls on them to seek the beast within to throw off the mantle of civilisation and march force to battle as true dewiek of ancient times. The howling starts, first amongst the young males already straining at the leash to join their warrior packmates but quickly spread as it becomes clear that Folkvar has arrived to die and to die alongside him is great honour indeed.
Soon the sound of a hundred thousand militia armed with farming implements, las cutters and armoured only with faith storm the doors and fences separating them from the fiercest fighting.
It seems that the enemy is aware of Folkvars arrival as well and hundreds of armour and the core veterans converge on his position and that of the Skold.

*** No Peace For Slimy Tentacles ***

The Flagritz offer to surrender to a neutral third party appears to have been rejected out of hand by the EMP, who have refused to even countenance it with a response.

Despite this a number of FLZ positions appear to have reflagged as DEN this week. Which has made absolutely no difference to anything at all that is going on.

*** DEN Comms System Compromised ***

The CIA appear to have hacked the DEN communications arrays, as a number of private messages relating to the defense of Manticore have been broadcast in the clear this week.

Fortunately for the DEN nothing critical was revealed by the CIA sting.

*** Noble Houses ***

As speculated last week, Kang is now able to confirm that the Confederate Noble Houses have indeed been disbanded throughout the Caliphate. The CAL minister of local affairs was quoted: “Most of the other nobles have new civil jobs or have retired from public life with the notable except of David Vehrenberg who is now Minister of Infrastructure in the Caliphate. The Vehrenbergs and Shirazi's have a long standing friendship.”

Kang hopes ‘friendship’ means the same in puny human politics as it does in superior Flagritz politics.

*** Solo – Day 5 – Space Battle ***

The EMP uber fleet was in action today, intercepting and destroying a large number of MRC and FRE flagged freighters that were attempting to run the gauntlet in to Manticore, presumably to drop off additional defenders.

Casualites amongst the freighters are understood to have been very high.

Mmmmmmm. Kang looks forward to visiting Solo in the future, and driving his spaceship through the clouds of frozen bodies orbiting the planet.

*** RIP ***

The RIP’s recent decision to start targeting all FRE flags in Solo has met with some resistance from other quarters, who think it amounts to nothing more than extortion and piracy.

The HEX have issued the following press release:

We are the Voice of the Hexamon. The RIP collective has admitted engaging in piracy against free traders, has very publicly attempted to extort many collectives and today has threatened to attack civilian populations.

The Hexamon and other collectives will respond. If RIP choose to act like pirates, they will be treated as such. We will destroy RIP positions wherever they are located.

The Hexamon offer a 100 stellar per hull bounty on confirmed kills of RIP ships. We will also offer a reward for any information provided to us that leads to the destruction of a RIP ship (whether the Hexamon or others destroy the RIP ship).

Free traders, particularly those in Solo, should continue to contact us for assistance.

And several other affiliations are understood to be sympathetic to the HEX position on this.

The RIP for their part remain cheerfully unrepentant.

*** Solo – Day Six ***

A quieter day in Solo, as the Uber-GP continued to grind forwards, capturing more and more of Manticore, ending the day in possession of almost half of the facility:

Ground Battle for the Control of DEN Manticore (3637)
Round 1: Battle is 11:7 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 0.5% control [67.28%]
0.91% chance of losing control
Round 2: Battle is 8:5 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 2.3% control [64.98%]
1.11% chance of losing control
Round 3: Battle is 5:3 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 2.37% control [62.62%]
1.35% chance of losing control
Round 4: Battle is 5:3 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 2.87% control [59.75%]
1.69% chance of losing control

DEN ships caught more CIA popships (as they pop so easily)

CIA Serpent 4 (2857) - Ship
Monitor Class Gun Boat {Light Ablative Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!
CIA Serpent 1 (5623) - Ship

CIA Serpent 3 (57942) - Ship

BLOWN UP!

A grim sense of inevitability now hangs over the system, as it stands on the verge of falling to the human EMPire.

*** Solo – Day 7 ***

The defenders of Manticore woke on the seventh day and dewieked their positions, expecting one final blaze of glory as the Uber GP pushed ever onwards, this giant unstoppable ground force that single-handedly brought defeat to the DTR after many many long years of the EMP/DTR war.

However, this day at least, it was not to be. And the Dewiek held on, just…

Round 1: Battle is 37:10 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 5.05% control [54.7%]
2.4% chance of losing control
Round 2: Battle is 37:10 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 5.5% control [49.2%]
3.39% chance of losing control
Round 3: Battle is 37:10 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 5.68% control [43.52%]
4.66% chance of losing control
Round 4: Battle is 37:10 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 5.58% control [37.94%]
6.18% chance of losing control

Elsewhere the RIP were less than welcome near the battle zone, as they continue their quest to become Most Hated Meatsacks In The Peripheries:

RIP Envy R1 (51092) - Ship
Omen Class Gun Boat {No Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!

And the Flagritz located and destroyed yet another GTT platform:

GTT Papa Alpha (32038) - Platform
Armour: 6.0
BLOWN UP!

Elsewhere in system, a lone GTT cruiser was caught by the DEN/HEX

GTT Ranger Kilo (85422) - Ship
Man-Of-War Class Heavy Cruiser {Medium Ablative Armour}
Hull Damage: 100.0%
BLOWN UP!

While two DEN ships were also caught and destroyed:

DEN Faering 70S (18857) - Ship

A good day for the EMP Fleet, as they continue to stamp their authority across the Solo system.

*** Storm ***

Pirate spotters have been detected in the outer reaches of the Storm system. Travellers are warned to slow down and allow all unidentified ships to dock with them immediately.

*** Hammer ***

Glorious chaos has erupted across the surface of Hammer, as panicked civilians attempt to escape orbital bombardments, invasion forces, investigative teams, packs of criminals taking advantage of the chaos, escaped criminals, angry Krell, and at least one Alien Attack Animal that has escaped from a zoo.

Roads are reportedly clogged around all major population centers and starbases, with civilian police services struggling to cope.

Just the sort of environment where a rumour about weapons of mass destruction being deployed should be introduced, just to maximise chaos.

*** AGENT X DETECTED ON HAMMER! ***

Reports have reached Kang’s newsroom of communities wiped out on the surface of Hammer by mass strikes of deadly Agent X nerve gas. Civilians on Hammer are urged to claw and fight each other as they head for the hills and safety! RUN PUNY MEATSACKS! RUN!

*** Solo – Day 8 ***

A very bad day for the Dewiek began with a quiet success, as a single EMP freighter was destroyed in Solo:

GTT ISR 3 (64852) - Ship

However, the EMP moved their fleet into orbit of Tyburn, preventing the platform from shooting at their ground party, and destroying a very large number of DEN freighters, along with several DEN ground parties.

A few CAL warships were destroyed in exchange, but the move stands as a significant victory for the EMP uber-fleet.

With so much freighter shipping now destroyed, the Dewiek must surely be running short on strategic options…

Also, the EMP sent a smaller GP to attack DEN Exodus, as their campaign to eradicate the Dewiek presence from Solo continued:

*** Victory? ***

Kang has not yet heard for sure, but there are rumours that Manticore has now fallen.

*** Moral Threat Declared ***

The Brotherhood have declared the GTT boardgame ‘Naked Twister’ to be a profound moral threat to the Peripheries.

Kang would say something pithy, but Kang is too busy trying not to think about the GTT playing naked twister.

*** Breaking News – Folkvar Killed ***

The legend that is Folkvar is believe to have fallen in the defence of Manticore on Star Date 215.45.5 A secretary as taken over his role for the time being.

The High Lord entered the fight and encouraged tens of thousands of no combatant Dewiek to enter the fray and gain glory for themselves fighting the imperial hoard.

Whilst the Solo saga is not over yet Folkvars is.

The Nations rejoices in his glorious death and much ale will flow celebrating and acting out his last few days of battle.

The High Council will select another High Lord till then policy will not change.

***** Special Report - RIP Celebrate News With Song *****

In acknowledgement of 500 glorious editions of Subspace Static, from an undisclosed starport the Sargasso Stranglers perform for your entertainment:

The Truth Is Irresistible

Oh the rare possibility can seem a probability and dim your facility for reasoning.
The exception seems the norm if you study it too long in the media that spice it all with seasoning.
You can trust those who love you, but there are those above you who seem clever but are really just like one of us.
Though famous they may be and you see them on TV, their integrity to you remains anonymous.

Chorus Begins

For the Truth is irresistible,
you can hide your eyes for a while but it's a known goal.
Argument may take its toll,
But the Truth in the words of a song, in the short term, or the long,
will conquer all.

Chorus Ends

Tradition has to work you know to survive the ages, helping us restrain the arrogance of intellect.
At our peril do we reject any law that did protect our forebears from the sages of the evil sect.
Until the SSS came along, we learned what was right and wrong from parents and those that loved and cared for us.
In the 160's we did turn, their ways we learned to spurn, falling in the trap the strangers did prepare for us.

Chorus

Our children they look up to us for guidance but we shrug our shoulders, tiny seedlings in the bowl must fight to grow.
For we are the stoney ground where few nutrients are found, the nutrition of tradition severed long ago.
But the future must be bright again, our children have the right to claim the heritage we've hidden from them for far too long.
From the quest for what is True comes the best of old and new, they'll repair the sign-posts on the road where we went wrong.

Chorus

Now the 160's they're in the past, the age of confusion is fast waning and I smell a change upon the air.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating and this cheating way of life has left a generation in despair.
But the changes must come soon I fear, the day of Truth is looming near, destruction in the womb, the street, the atmosphere.
Oh the learning of one lifetime cannot compare or ease the strife like the accumulated wisdom of ten thousand years,
For the Truth is irresistible,
you can hide your eyes for a while but it's a known goal.
Argument may take its toll,
But the Truth in the words of a song, in the short term, or the long,
will conquer all.
