The Beacon

It is said that a Beacon burns most brightly in the darkest depths of night - as a new darkness descends on the galaxy we offer a place for hope to shine again.

We will not lie and claim to be unbiased as other publications do, our aim is to give an opportunity to all the Humans and Aliens who oppose the darkness that has infiltrated the Empire of Man to tell their side of the story. It is up to you as readers to hear both sides of the story and decide who you believe is telling you the truth.

Descent into Darkness

When Coreward was first discovered in 212 it gave many of the smaller independent affiliations and alien races new opportunities to explore, trade and establish themselves. It was inevitable that the larger affiliations would also establish a presence, however for the most part conflict was avoided. The region was already populated by a native population which welcomed all the different races and there were many planets and moons to explore.

The Confederacy (now Caliphate) had always hated the aliens and those that would work with them and it was no surprise that the first major conflict in this region erupted in 213 following repeated attacks by the Confederacy against a number of Alien races trade ships in Coreward.

When the Alien races attempted to defend their ships the fighting quickly escalated as the Confederacy deployed large numbers of capital ships, many of which were armed with weapons of mass destruction. The conflict expanded to the Cluster region where the Confederacy had been dominant for nearly a decade. After several fleet battles the war concluded with the Confederacy being driven from much of the cluster.

Following this conflict the Confederacy collapsed and emerged as the Caliphate. With a message of “peace be upon you” it was seen as a great change from the warlike and Alien hating Confederacy. Many saw this as a new dawn for this important branch of the Human Empire and a new chapter in the history of the galaxy.

However some things do not change and history has a way of repeating itself. Behind this outward show of civility and peace the heart of the old Confederacy still beats.

Having rebranded its hatred of aliens and those that would work with them as now a ‘divine’ duty to fight the enemies that will destroy humanity they look to stir fear within the Human Empire and create situations to justify their thirst for war.

And so the Empire of Man, once a beacon itself within the galaxy is consumed by the darkness on the Caliphate and drawn into war once again.

The first Casualties

The initial targets of the Caliphate were in fact other humans - those that had prospered within Coreward and had peacefully existed with other Aliens.

Both Garcia Enterprises and the Affiliation of Free Traders were targeted by the Caliphate and given an ultimatum to join with them or be crushed.

It put both groups in a very tough decision, having prided themselves on being neutral trading aff’s they only maintained small anti-pirating forces and had no allies to help them.

Garcia Enterprises was an affiliation founded out of Fernando Garcias dream of creating an independent trading affiliation with no ties to any government and succeed where so many affiliation have failed. It was sad to see it capitulate within a week of the Caliphates demands. Following its capitulation there was much murmuring amongst its members and many have left to continue the good fight or escape the jack boot which is now firmly pressed against the remains captains necks.

The Affiliation of Free Traders however has stood firm and is opposing the Caliphate demands. With a long history of indepenapndace and acceptance of aliens within their ranks the team at Beacon wish them luck in their struggle - it is really a David and goliath struggle for them but we hope their rock fly true.

Conflict in Coreward

Reports are coming in from our traders within Coreward of a large deployment of Caliphate and GTT ships in Coreward and a number of battles have taken place within Zewt.

These battles in Zewt seem to have followed Caliphate and GTT attacks on the former AFT base in Arridian and a number of Alien freighters in Coreward which was reported on public channels. The Beacon team will be making contact with the Aliens involved and plan to bring a full report next week.

Who Are Beacon?
Based in Yank, Halo and Corewards the Beacon team is a mixture of Human and Alien traders who fly under a number of different flags. Able to gather stories and information from all over the galaxy they have unrivalled access to the events of the day.

Can others Submitt?
While we have a team of writers we plan to accept submissions from others outside the Beacon team - we are contacting a number of governments to come up with a submission system and will advise in the next issue.
